[The video feed switches on to provide a blurred close up on someone's face. The user moves back slowly, allowing the image to come into focus as it shows a blond teenager sat on the ground, eying the device suspiciously.]

Hey- This thing even on? [A tap on the screen, the teen sighs, exasperated, before looking over to the Poliwag sat beside him.]

You know how to make this work?

[Silence.]

....Didn't think so. Maybe we just...

[Grumbling again as he shuffles in his spot, Naruto holds out the Pokegear a little further as he puts on one of his biggest, brightest smiles.]

Uzumaki Naruto, reporting for duty! Hehe. So, I really need to get home, everyone is counting on me, but the weird lady who thinks she's my Mom said I can't, so since I'm here I'm going to get all the badges and have everyone acknowledge me as the greatest Pokemon trainer there is, you'd better believe it!

[He hops up to his feet, facing the Poliwag once again.] C'mon Gama-chan! Training starts now!

[His speech is interrupted by the loud growling of an empty stomach.] Er... after we eat, that is. Does this place have ramen?

How do we get more of these Pokemon? i know they're not summons, 'cause you can't summon anything here.

Yeah, Olivine's where Lightning-san is. She's got some kind of hideout that's fortified enough to be safe from Rockets while Sasuke's a target. And the hitai-ate? That marks you as one, too, and Bowser's already noticed you. Keep your head down.

And you can catch them or buy them as eggs them. Like... [Half a moment, she's abandoning the 'gear to grab one of her Pokéballs and release an almost six-foot-tall-razorbird who immediately nuzzles at her shoulder for attention before eyeing the 'gear. So bright...]

This is Feng, the guy I started with.

Heh, that guy looks really strong. I've gt Gama-chan but he doesn't really seem to want to do anything..

[Moving the feed to see, the Poliwag is jsut.. well. Snoozing.]

Oh, it's cute! It'll be up to you to train him, and-- Hey!

[She's interrupted by Feng moving in to poke his beak against the 'gear, then opening his mouth to squawk into the speaker, trying to find out what this bright thing on the screen was. Loud. A new face and another Pokémon? He's not sure he's okay with that.]

Too loud! TOO LOUD!!

[What sort of unholy noise was that, seriously?!]

Feng!

[It takes another moment of the Skarmory's suspicious eyeing before he finally backs off, taking position behind Tenten to keep watching her 'gear.]

Ugh... But anyway, like I was going to say, once this guy sheds? I can use his feathers as weapons! Obito-kun has a contact who can make him knives. It's illegal, so keep it to yourself, you got it?

[She's in a locked room, so she unbuttoned the first two clasps of her tunic and drew out a knife from within, rather small and wide with a blue handle -- and obviously well-made.]

Why would having knives be illegal?

[Even little kids use kunai at home, not being allowed them just seems such a strange and foreign concept.]

Because it's one of the laws of this place. You get caught with weapons, they'll confiscate them and arrest you.

...Unless it's blunt, then you can argue about it. But yeah, believe me, it sucks. That's why you have to train your Pokémon -- they're kind of like living weapons themselves.

This place is so stupid, not letting us use chakra was bad enough!

So that means I should try catching more right away, right? Since apparently they're the only thing we're allowed to use to fight.

Yeah, but don't forget you have to feed them and train them and take care of them, too. I've got...

[Let her do a quick count, Naruto.]

Fifteen, right now. It's a little overwhelming sometimes, but I make sure to get time in for all of them.

How do you train them? Do you just... sort of let them spar each other?

There's a lot of different ways, you'll have to see what works best for you and your team.

Me, I like to spar with them when I have the chance, but mostly I try to set them up against each other and direct them from there. But Rockets have no problem teaching their Pokémon it's alright to hurt people. I don't see why I should do any different.

If those Rocket guys attack, we need to be able to fight them.

[Why wouldn't you train them to fight your enemies too.]

They already did attack a week or-- two weeks ago, actually. Destroyed one of the major buildings in Goldenrod, Sasuke-kun and Evan-kun got beat up pretty badly. That's why it's important to train your Pokémon to get stronger, too -- that Bowser guy? His are up around level a-hundred, if they're not up that high already.

So try to stay low for now. I know that's hard for you, Rookie, but if you've got a seven-foot-tall dinosaur-Pokémon wanting to make a meal of you? You're gonna have to get over it.

[He opens his mouth up to say something and complain, but he knows Tenten's right. Instead he only grins]

Well then I'm wasting time sitting here talking, when I could be training! Heh.

Yeah, yeah. Anyway, I recommend heading to Celadon if you can. It's a little expensive to get to Kanto, but worth it. There's a guy named Riku who runs a Training Center there... he'll be able to help you out. Sora, too. They're good guys.

I'll try and remember that!

Don't try to remember, Rookie! Actually remember! Those guys can help you out a lot with raising and training your Pokémon.

Okay, okay! I'm remembering! [Sheesh.]
